When is President's Day?

United States celebrate third Monday of the month February each year as the President's Day which is basically America's first President George Washington's Birthday. The day also commemorates all the past presidents to praise their contribution towards the nation.

The day was first celebrated as a federal holidays in 1880s. Though George Washington was on February 22, 1732, people started celebrating it on third Monday of February after the government passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Bill in 1968. It also moved a number of other federal holidays to Mondays. Remember that George Washington held President of the United States' post for the two consecutive terms from 1789 to 1797. Prior to that he played very important roles in military leading the American Continental Army to victory over the British in 1783.

This day officially honors the life and efforts of George Washington for the betterment of the country. Schools and colleges organize various programs to learn more about all the Presidents of the United States and their work, George Washington in particular. Most government institutions except essential services stay closed for the day.
