Thanksgiving Day in United States

When is Thanksgiving Day?

Fourth Thursday of November each year is celebrated as Thanksgiving Day. The next day is called Black Friday (considered a holiday in around 20 states) which makes it perhaps one of the longest weekends that people utilize to travel to meet their loved ones.

It is a public holiday and schools, colleges and most of the businesses except essential services are closed for the entire day.

The basic idea behind celebrating Thanksgiving for the people in US is to thank to the Almighty for whatever they have. Families and friends get together to pump-up the celebrations by having feasts like turkey, potatoes, cranberry sauce, and a variety of pies.

Started in the year 1863, the day not only gives people a reason to meet and party hard, but also is considered the start of the shopping for Christmas and New Year.
