Mother is a selfless woman who gives birth to a child or who has the responsibility of physical and emotional care of a child. Mothers take care of their children and nurture them through their lives. Mother's Day is celebrated in many parts of the world in order to honour the mothers, their motherhood and their values in the family. On May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson announced Mother's Day a national holiday which would be held on the second Sunday of May. More than 50 countries around the world celebrate Mother's day.

Mother's Day is celebrated by thanking mothers, expressing love and gratitude to them, presenting gifts and flowers to the mothers and throwing parties for them. Children try to spend the mother's day together with their mothers. In most of the families, mothers are relieved of from their day-to-day house hold activities such as cooking, other duties, etc. and are asked to take some rest on mother's day.
