Republic Day of India falls on 26 January every year. This is celebrated towards adoption of the Constitution of India. On 26 January 1950, the Constitution of India came into effect. Republic Day celebration is held in the national capital, New Delhi, at the Rajpath before the President of India. Delhi Republic Day parade is held in New Delhi which is organised by the Ministry of Defence. It showcases India's defence capability, cultural and social heritage. This day, Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force with their bands march past in all their finery and official decorations. This day, one or more foreign head/s is/ are invited as the president's chief guest/s.
The President of India, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, takes the salute. This day, the prime minister of India pays tribute to the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate to commemorate the sacrifices made by our Indian soldiers for saving India. Many dance and other types of performances are organised by the school children in front of the audience sitting in India Gate.
This military parade is held not only in New Delhi but in the state capitals also in which the participants from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and traditional dance groups participate. In different states of India, the military salute is taken by respective state governors.

On the Eve of Republic Day the president of India distributes Padma Awards (Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri) to the civilians of India.
