BSE stands for Bombay Stock Exchange. BSE was established on 9th July 1875 with the name "The Native Share and Stock Brokers' Association". It was founded by Premchand Roychand who was a big businessman known as Cotton King.

BSE is the oldest stock exchange in Asia and the fastest Stock Exchange in world with the speed of 6 micro seconds. BSE's automated & screen-based trading platform called BSE On-Line Trading (BOLT) has a capacity of 8 million orders per day.

31st August 1957. BSE lists around 5,500 companies. BSE is also one of the largest exchanges in the world.

BSE Milestones

  • BSE developed the S&P BSE SENSEX index, giving the BSE a means to measure the overall performance of the exchange in 1986. It is India's most widely tracked stock market benchmark index. It is India's first equity index launched (with Base Year:1978-79 =100).
  • BSE switched from an open outcry floor trading exchange to an electronic trading system developed by CMC Ltd on 14t March 1995.
  • BSE used this index to open its derivatives market, trading S&P BSE SENSEX futures contracts in 2000.
  • BSE SME is India's largest SME platform which has listed over 250 companies and continues to grow at a steady pace.
  • BSE Launched BSE StAR MF on 4th December 2009. It is India's largest online mutual fund platform.
  • Indian Clearing Corporation Limited (ICCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of BSE, acts as the central counterparty to all trades executed on the BSE trading platform
  • BSE Bond, the transparent and efficient electronic book mechanism process for private placement of debt securities.
  • BSE has also introduced a centralized exchange-based internet trading system, BSEWEBx.co.in to enable investors anywhere in the world to trade on the BSE platform.
  • BSE has raised capital by issuing shares through an IPO on 3rd February 2017. It becomes India's first listed Stock Exchange.
  • BSE established India INX on 30th December 2016 which is the first international exchange of India.
  • BSE has launched India INX, India's 1st international exchange.
  • BSE Institute Ltd is a fully owned subsidiary of BSE. It is one of the most respected capital market educational institutes in India.
  • BSE has launched BSE Sammaan, the CSR exchange, is a 1st of its kind initiative which aims to connect corporate with verified NGOs.

NSE is an abbreviation for National Stock Exchange of India Limited. NSE is the leading stock exchange in India. According to World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) report, NSE is the second largest in the world by number of trades in equity shares from January to June 2018.

NSE was established in 1992 as the first demutualized electronic exchange in India. It was recognized as a stock exchange under the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1956 in 1993. The major motto behind setting up of NSE was to bring transparency to the Indian capital market. NSE was set up by a group of leading Indian financial institutions at the behest of the government of India.

NSE was the first exchange in India to provide fully automated screen-based electronic trading system offering easy trading facility to the investors across India. NSE can handle 1,60,000 orders/ messages per second.

NSE is the world's 11th largest stock exchange as of April 2018 by market capitalization. NSE lists around 2,000 companies.

NSE Milestones

  • NSE was the first exchange in India to introduce electronic trading facility
  • Nifty 50 index was launched in 1996 by the NSE.
  • NSE introduced index futures on 12 June 2000.
  • NSE is also instrumental in creating the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) which allows investors to securely hold and transfer their shares and bonds electronically.
  • NSE launched derivative contracts on the world's most followed equity indices, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average on 29th August 2011.
  • NSE introduced currency derivatives in India with the launch of Currency Futures in USD-INR.
  • NSE launched India's first dedicated debt platform to provide a liquid and transparent trading platform for debt related products on 13th May 2013.
  • NSE launched electronic book-building platform for private placement of debt securities in 2016
  • 7 Mutual Funds have launched their exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on NIFTY 50 Index which are listed on NSE.

MCX stands for Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited. MCX was established in 2003. MCX is India's first listed commodity derivatives exchange that facilitates online trading of commodity derivatives transactions. It also provides a platform for price discovery and risk management.

A commodity market is a place where you can buy, sell or trade various commodities at current or future date. In MCX, you can make a commodity trading. Commodity trading is similar to stock trading but here instead of purchasing and selling shares of companies, you can buy and sell commodity products.

As of 31st December, 2018, MCX has 684 registered members and 54,324 Authorised Persons. MCX has its presence in around 1091 cities and towns across India.

MCX has to operate under the regulatory framework of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

MCX offers trading in commodity derivative contracts across varied segments including:

  1. Bullion: Gold, Gold Mini, Gold Guinea, Gold Petal, Gold Petal ( New Delhi), Gold Global, Silver, Silver Mini, Silver Micro, Silver 1000
